Less than 2yrs old, the lens stuck. Est repair cost: $130 February 5, 2010 Eric E. Schafer I bought this camera in July of 2008 for $230. After less than two years of moderate use, the lens got stuck. The estimated cost for repair is $130, which is the cost of a new camera. I would be fine if the camera either didn't break, or if repairs cost $30 to $50. My next camera will be a Canon, but a cheaper one, and I'll basically be treating it as an 18mo disposable camera.
The lens would not retract January 17, 2010 A. S. Meziani I bought this camera on July 2007 and have used it sporadically since. Recently, I tried to help my son with his science project by taking pictures of items needed for his project and... the lens simply would not retract. I ended up buying a cheap disposable camera to do a job supposed to be done by this expensive camera. This camera was used sporadically, never under harsh conditions and stored properly. I bought it for $368 then and it turned out to be an expensive disposable camera. The canon brand used to be a reputable brand. Buyers beware. Poorly Constructed January 10, 2010 Dave (Brooklyn, NY) This is my second and last Powershot, they are good because they takes decent shots and are small, but the problem is that they are not built to last. I accidentally dropped one from waist high and that killed it, the other one just blew out on me after only 2 years. They need to improve their construction of these things to make them more durable

This is the best camera I have owned to date. This is the 2nd time I bought this model. My first one was lost with a stolen purse. I HAD to buy the exact same camera again. I spent a few weeks researching other make/models, but in the end, spent time on Ebay and Amazon looking to purchase a "new" used camera. (I was not ready to pay the asking price for a brand new SD850 camera.) The quality is wonderful, especially when capturing a moving target. The movie mode is also very impressive. I gave up using my digital video camera -- this camera takes better pictures than it ever did.

This is the first 850, but the 3rd camera in this "family" that I have purchased. I was in love with my SD700, but I lost it. This has been a superior replacement with improved night photos and video options.
